The name Pytheas is derived from Pytheas of Massila who was a Greek geographer and explorer known for his voyage of exploration to northwestern Europe in about 325 BC. On this voyage he described the midnight sun, Aurora Borealis and a land called Thule which is thought to be Norway. This makes Pytheas one of the first expats to work an live in Norway.
